25 Feb “Welcoming, whirlwind, wonderful”, says Research Cadet, Diya Goswami, of her experience so far at Barrenjoey
In February, we welcomed our first cohort of cadets through our partnership with Professional Cadetships Australia (PCA). Diya Goswami, now studying Economics/Philosophy at USYD, applied for the cadetship when she was in Year 12. She’s just started in Barrenjoey’s Research team, which offers industry-leading analysis and investment advice for clients across 130+ ASX companies. Here’s what Diya has to say about her experience.
Q: What 3 words describe your experience so far at Barrenjoey?
A: Welcoming, whirlwind, wonderful.
Q: Why did you apply for a cadetship?
A: The chance of real-life experience in the equity market and research really drew me in – not to mention I’d get to learn from some of the best in the biz!
Q: What’s involved in the cadetship?
A: As research cadets, we might not be putting together full reports just yet, but we’re definitely on the way there. Our teams give us smaller tasks (like some financial modelling, reports set-up, research tasks) that build our understanding of some of the terminology, key features for reports, and the day-to-day of a research analyst’s job in general. We’ve also been able to listen in and note-take on some result calls during the hectic reporting season.
Q: What’s been the best part so far?
A: Definitely the culture and workplace environment! It’s very welcoming and people are always happy to help and share their expertise. Even in the peak of reporting season, with high volume client calls, Mollie or Taylor or Annie or Jim have been more than happy to explain countless tables, charts, and reports. Also, the sense of humour, positive attitude, and excitement of everyone to work at Barrenjoey has been infectious – and one of the best parts so far.
